SALT architects are a design orientated multidisciplinary practice. We believe that good examples of design can only result through a thorough understanding of both site and cultural context. Our work results from a development of a conceptual strategy borne out of this investigation. Our multidisciplinary basis allows for a broader input at strategic points within a programme of development which often allows tangential investigation and solutions. This approach is appreciated by clients allowing briefs to be re-evaluated and solutions more sustainable. This has been of particular use in our work within local communities. Within this context, we have experience of working with historic buildings and landscapes as well as designing and implementing contemporary buildings and landscapes.

Salt architects are committed to working towards the development of an enhanced environment for all. We believe in improving stewardship and quality of design working closely with communities. The skills and knowledge within the practice, we believe, offers expertise to promote such a commitment. The practice is deeply embedded in the region with both directors born and educated within Yorkshire. All directors have been involved in practice, education, teaching and community enablement within the Yorkshire region for the past 25 years. Our continued involvement at all these levels maintains the practice at the leading edge of the profession within the region. The integration of urban /rural planning, landscape design and architecture is reinforced by SALT architects specialism and commitment to a participatory and inclusive approach to the design process.

As well as expertise in urban /rural planning, landscape design and architecture, Salt architects have developed a working methodology which is inclusive. We believe in the participation of local communities and end users in the design process. The practice has experience of working with all sections of the community to nurture appropriate solutions for regeneration. Where possible our work is led by a landscape /urban strategy ensuring an integrated and sustainable response. The work in the practice is supported by CAD and visualisation software allowing enhanced 3-D animations as well as coordinated packages of project information.
